With its gold,
pink and orange high walls, Taroudant is part Kasbahand
part Oasis. It is a town of great charm and grace.
The clay houses,
minarets and groves of oranges, pomegranates and Lemons are
beneath the High Atlas to the north and the Anti-Atlas to
the south.
The walls, the souks and the stark backdrop of the High Atlas
are the
towns main attractions and the best way to see the town is
by horse-drawn
carriage especially at dusk.
The souks are not large but
they are varied;
there is a strong tradition of local craft and much of
the work here is of
outstanding quality.
Taroudant is only an hours drive from Agadir and its International
airport
and about four hours drive from Marrakech.
Hiring a car
will enable you to
make your own excursions to the magnificent Glaoui Kasbah
atTaliouine (50
miles); through the Anti Atlas Mountains to the oasis town
of Tata;
exhilarating surf beaches at Sidi Moussa and Tahgazout;
the walled town of
Tiznit; the natural wonders of Tafraoute and of course
there are the
spectacular passes in the High Atlas within reach of Taroudant.
