Asilah
Asilah, the first town south of Tangier, is an elegant old Portuguese port, similar to Essaouira to the west of Marrakech. The sandy beach is very long and stretches halfway to Tangier.
There is an international festival in August each year, which includes art, dance, films, music etc and attracts artists from around the world.
The town is clean and tidy. The Medina is small but has many good shops. A great number of the houses in the Medina have been renovated and there are a considerable number which are foreign-owned.
Apartments and villas have been built along the beach road and also a short way inland.
The train station is 2kms to the north; the bus station is in the centre of the town. The motorway for southern Morocco starts here and is being extended northwards to Tangier.
There is a considerable number of hotels and camp-sites, so finding accommodation is easy ,except at the time of the festival when it is better to book in advance.
